If you’re fortunate enough to have your own pool then whether you use it every day or a couple of times a week there are a few supplies which you really need to have close to hand. As well as keeping your pool clean they can help lower your maintenance costs too. So, let’s dive in and take a look (sorry for the pun) ?
5 ESSENTIAL SUPPLIES FOR YOUR POOL
Pool brush and scoop
Not only is it annoying when leaves and other debris fall into your pool, but it also raises the risk of algae forming which will turn your pool water cloudy and green – ugh! When this happens it will cost money and time to rebalance your pool.
By brushing and scooping your pool on a regular basis, it lowers algae growth and helps keep your pool looking clear and healthy. Do this at least once a week if you want your pool to look its best.
Maxi Clear tablets
There’s something quite beautiful about a pool which sparkles. If your pool has lost its sparkle, then you can bring it back with Maxi Clear tablets. Simple and easy to use, a single tablet is dropped into the skimmer box after you’ve back-washed your pool. They work by helping your skimmer to trap finer particles which in turn makes your pool shimmer.
Shock pack
It’s always best to shock your pool when you first open it for the summer, to kill any algae that have developed in the spring.
In order to maintain your pool water’s clarity and balance, it’s a good idea to shock it weekly. What does this do? It raises the level of chlorine which rids the pool of any contaminants, without affecting the water’s Ph level.
It’s best to shock your pool in the evening once the sun has gone down (after you’ve cleaned any debris out of the pool) because otherwise, the sun rays will dissolve the chlorine too quickly before it has a chance to attach and oxidise.
Water sample bottle
One of the easiest ways to keep your pool looking clear and healthy is to test the water on a regular basis, every couple of weeks or so, when it’s being used heavily by the family. Regular testing allows you to take action quickly before any issues or imbalances become more serious and cost more money to fix.
Pool cover
Finally, investing in a pool cover can save you time and money throughout the year. How?
- It prevents debris, insects, and leaves getting in the water which means your water will stay cleaner for longer
- A cover also helps reduces water evaporation which means you won’t have to top it up so often and this will save on utility bills
- A cover can also lower the number of chemicals you’re using since less water is evaporating
