Specialist Child-Safe Sandpit Cover Attachments
All our attachment systems are purpose designed and will not pose a hazard to children or educators. We treat each sandpit as a unique structure and use a combination of specialist manufacturing and attachment techniques to obtain the best possible result.
We regret that we are unable to assist with Household Sandpit Covers at this time.
Depending upon the design of the sandpit, our sandpit covers may have strap and buckle fasteners, stainless steel snap hooks, elastic attachments, weighted rope perimeter, or a combination of these attachment systems.
Weighted Perimeter Covers can be used in a variety of situations. Historically, these covers have been fitted with galvanised chain in the hem which is knobbly, causes the cover to chafe and tends to break out. This type of cover has naively been used as a “one solution fits all” approach, but unfortunately is not the silver bullet that it has been made out to be.
Just Covers use a weighted rope perimeter in preference to chain which is much smoother, nicer to handle and less prone to chafing and break-out. However, a weighted perimeter needs to be used sparingly and with discretion, often in combination with other attachment systems.
Advantages of weighted perimeter sandpit covers:-
- Non clog
- No attachments to secure when removing / refitting the cover
- Will keep the cover in place against a retaining wall or high sandpit border.
- May be the only option on soft-fall or other surfaces where alternative attachments cannot be fixed
Disadvantages of weighted perimeter sandpit covers:
- Adds considerable weight to the cover (possibly double or triple)
- The cover will dislodge from the opposite side the when pulling it onto the sandpit, adding to deployment time
- May slide away from the edge of the sandpit when sand banks up along the sides
Elastics and Automotive-Style Tonneau Cover Buttons can be used on the outside of a sandbox vertical wall or can be placed strategically among rocks, logs or other uneven perimeters. They cannot be used on a horizontal surface because they will cause a tripping hazard. Likewise, they cannot be used to secure to the inside of a sandpit wall because the elastic loop would just slip off the knob!
Advantages of Elastics & Tonneau Button sandpit covers:-
- Very Lightweight
- Secure attachment
- Cover is taught and attractive on the sandpit
Disadvantages of Elastics & Tonneau Button sandpit covers:-
- Knob can only be used on outside vertical wall of sandbox
- Attachment cannot be used on horizontal surface (Trip hazard)
- Cannot be used if sand level is low. Too much space between cover and sand may cause the elastics to break if a child were to venture onto the cover.

Elastics & Stayput Dome Anchors. The Stayput Dome Anchor is a purpose designed sandpit cover fitting that has a wide application, when used in conjunction with elastic loops. Stayput Dome Anchors can be used on pavement or soft-fall areas without causing a stubbing or tripping hazard
Advantages of Elastics & Stayput Dome Anchor sandpit covers:-
- Can be used safely on horizontal surfaces without causing a trip or stub hazard
- Very Lightweight sandpit cover design
- Secure attachment
- Cover is taught and attractive on the sandpit
Disadvantages of Elastics & Stayput Anchor sandpit covers:-
- Stayput Anchors may become clogged with sand and will require regular cleaning / blowing out. However, if the kids are given a paintbrush, this can be turned into an entertaining children’s activity!

Snap Hook Attachments are made from Marine Grade 316 stainless steel and can be used in a variety of situations. The sandpit cover can easily be secured to an existing post or to the inside of a wall.
Advantages of Snap Hook attachments on sandpit covers:-
- Very Lightweight & Robust
- Extremely positive, secure attachment
- Can attach to existing posts
- Can attach to the inside of walls
- Can be used in combination with a stainless saddle
- Do not clog or deteriorate in any way
Disadvantages of Snap Hook attachments on sandpit covers:-
- Can be more time-consuming to attach than some other systems
Strap & Buckle Attachments are adjustable rigid attachments that will keep the cover looking taught and smart. However, they have limited application.
Advantages of Strap & Buckle sandpit covers:-
- Lightweight
- Secure attachment
- Cover is taught and attractive on the sandpit
Disadvantages of Strap &Buckle sandpit covers:-
- Can only be used if cover is virtually at sand level
- Cover would be strained if under load where excessive space exists between the cover and sand level. ie. If a child were to venture onto the cover
